In 2016, there were 22,059,000 eligible voters, out of that total, 70.3% of them were registered to vote. This left 65,934,000 people that were unregistered to vote. Many people want to vote, but a lot are unaware of the fact that you must register in order to be able to cast a ballot. To prevent this misunderstanding from occurring down the line, registering to vote as soon as possible is very important. Many people don’t know that when you turn 16 years old you are able to pre-register to vote. This means that once you turn 18 you don’t have to worry about registering. This can eliminate the lack of voter participation amongst younger people and increase civic engagement amongst younger generations so that we can create the future that we envision in this country and around the world.
